The National President of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Dr. Chris Isiguzo, has praised Katsina State for its remarkable strides in development over the past 37 years, while acknowledging the existing challenges. Speaking during the 37th-anniversary celebration of Katsina State, Isiguzo emphasized the state's contributions to Nigeria’s political and economic progress, noting that the state has become a significant player in various sectors including governance, education, and commerce.

Addressing the event, which was graced by top government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Alhaji Farouk Lawal Jobe, Isiguzo expressed his personal connection with Katsina, describing it as his "second state." He recalled how the state government celebrated his birthday two years ago under the leadership of former Governor, Honorable Masari, further deepening his bond with the state.

"The celebration of Katsina State's 37th anniversary is a moment of pride, as we reflect on the journey so far. Katsina has made significant progress, contributing to the socio-political and economic development of Nigeria. From its agrarian roots to its leadership in governance and commerce, the state's journey is one worthy of reflection," Isiguzo said.

He commended the efforts of successive administrations in addressing the state's challenges, while noting that it is impossible for a single government to solve all problems at once. "It is difficult for one administration to tackle every challenge. Governance is a continuum, and each administration builds on the foundation laid by its predecessors," he added.

Isiguzo also highlighted the expansion of educational institutions in Katsina, from two at the state's inception to over ten today, emphasizing that these institutions have been instrumental in addressing national challenges by producing skilled professionals.

The event featured a lecture series, with key speakers addressing the progress and challenges faced by Katsina State over the years. Isiguzo acknowledged the contributions of various stakeholders, including the media, which he said plays a critical role in societal development.

"This celebration is not just about the NUJ; it is about celebrating the state's progress. The role of the media in fostering dialogue and reflection on societal issues cannot be overstated. The NUJ remains committed to being at the forefront of these conversations," Isiguzo stated.

The Katsina Council of the NUJ, which organized the event, received praise for consistently holding the anniversary celebrations for seven consecutive years. The occasion provided a platform for dialogue, reflection, and charting a path for future progress.
